Eastside Catholic ends Seattle Prep’s undefeated streak
In their third game of the season, the Eastside Catholic Crusaders delivered a much-anticipated win with a final score of 35-13 over the Seattle Prep Panthers.
The win ended the Panthers’ undefeated season record.
Eastside Catholic entered the field ready to work, with their first touchdown by Ishe Kanhukamwe a mere 20 seconds into the first quarter. But Seattle Prep, catching the Crusaders off guard, was quick to respond, with a 6-point answer from Will Floyd to Braeden Smith for a touchdown, but missing the kick for an extra point.
Eastside Catholic owned the second quarter with a substantial point streak, holding the Panthers to a scoreless quarter while the Crusaders collected an astonishing 28 unanswered points starting with their second touchdown from Evan Giacobbe. Andrew Mortoranno added another 7 to the scoreboard on a 47-yard reception from quarterback Brady McKelheer. Eastside Catholic would go on to add two more touchdowns from Dallas Daley and Ishe Kanhukamwe for a commanding halftime lead of 35-6.
The third quarter proved fruitless for both teams. Despite moving down field on a number of drives, defensive teams on either side of the ball were rock solid and the score did not budge.
Seven minutes into the fourth quarter, Seattle Prep broke through the Crusader wall and added their second touchdown of the game. Despite the Panthers’ best efforts and managing to hold the Crusaders scoreless for the entire second half, it was just not enough to close the deficit.
Next up, Eastside Catholic (2-1) will play at Garfield on Friday, October 1 at 7:45 p.m.
