Skyline football loses to Tacoma’s Lincoln High
In their first away game of the season, the Skyline Spartans played a competitive, non-conference game against the Lincoln High School Abes on Friday in Tacoma. After a hard-fought game with multiple lead changes, the Spartans lost to the Abes 54-42.
The teams were well-matched with two touchdowns in the first quarter and a 14-14 tie. But the second quarter would belong to the Abes. With seven minutes left in the half, on the Lincoln 30-yard line on a fourth down, Skyline settled on a punt, and this set the tone for the rest of the quarter. The Spartans would come close for another touchdown in the half but had to settle again for a second field goal. Lincoln took a 28-20 lead at halftime.
The Spartans did not give up. They managed to turn things around, temporarily taking the lead in the third quarter to make it 35-28. But the Abes were relentless and ended the quarter by retaking the lead with two more touchdowns.
Skyline managed to tie it up again at 42-42 with a fourth quarter touchdown. Unfortunately, the Spartans ran out of time and could not answer when Lincoln scored again. In the end, Skyline fell to Lincoln with a final score of 54-42.
Skyline (0-2) will face the Bishop Blanchet Braves on Friday, September 17 at home at 7:00 p.m.
