Eastlake Lady Wolves defeat Inglemoor for eighth season victory
Eastlake’s 8-2 Lady Wolves dominated the 3-7 Inglemoor Vikings Wednesday, Jan. 4, with a 60-40 victory.
The Vikings controlled the tip-off, hoping to sink the game opening two-pointer, only to be thwarted by a turnover when Madelyn Byker was singled-out for traveling. With control of the ball in the hands of the Lady Wolves, Eastlake’s Ava Schmidt quickly took charge, sinking consecutive shots for a five-point advantage, including a three-point shot and then a two-point bucket after she immediately stole the ball on an inbound pass. Although Inglemoor lagged behind 16-9, they did not give up, keeping the score reasonably close to end the quarter.
Starting the second quarter with the ball, Eastlake’s Sofia Aluas rallied her team with a nothing-but-net two-point opener. The Vikings answered back with a three-point shot from Sammy Snorsky. With a series of seamless back-and-forth passes, Vikings Dulcy Solomon and Juliana Pequignot hoped to start a run after Snorsky’s success, but ultimately lost the ball to superb defense by Schmidt, who took back the ball for another two-pointer for the Lady Wolves. Try as they might, Inglemoor could not prevent the gap from widening and the half ended with a 33-18 advantage for Eastlake.
Aluas and Schmidt continued adding points to the Lady Wolves’ side of the board throughout the third quarter. Byker fought hard for the Vikings and added several points to the score, but nevertheless the quarter ended with an insurmountable 55-25 difference.
Starting the final quarter strong, Solomon and Snorsky executed a successful series of two- and three-point shots to nudge the Vikings forward, resulting in their highest scoring quarter of the game for 15 points compared to a 5-point addition by the Lady Wolves. Despite the valiant effort, the Vikings ultimately ran out of time and fell short. Schmidt contributed 26 points for the Lady Wolves and helped advance her team to their eighth victory of the season, with a final score of 60-40.
The Eastlake Lady Wolves will play away at Woodinville on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7:15 p.m.
