Skyline boys soccer makes thrilling comeback win against Bainbridge
The Skyline Spartans overcame a two-goal deficit in its March 22 game against the Bainbridge Spartans, ultimately winning 4-2.
Skyline’s senior captain James Cairns made several shots on goal to start the first half, but neither team scored until well into the period. The slow momentum of the game quickly changed after a throw-in for Bainbridge by Blake Moyer made its way to Will Treverton, who swiftly maneuvered the ball into the net, bringing the score to 1-0, Bainbridge.
Skyline played offensively in an attempt to tie the score, but a corner kick for Bainbridge allowed Finn McCallum to score again. With mere minutes left until halftime, Skyline forwards fought to add a goal to the scoreboard. But the Bainbridge defense kept up, and Bainbridge had the advantage at halftime, 2-0.
Skyline returned from halftime with the determination to make a comeback. A corner kick from captain Colin McKenna flew toward defender Aaditya Sanas, who headered the ball into the net with a swift snap of his neck, bringing the score to 2-1, Bainbridge.
Skyline continued their assault on the Bainbridge defense as a throw-in by Kyle Kropp set up the ball for a shot by Cairns, tying up the score at 2-2. In quick succession, Cairns was able to find the net once more for Skyline, finally taking the lead from Bainbridge, 3-2.
Keeping the pressure on Bainbridge, Skyline was able to score one more time with a goal from forward Bashir Kaddoura. Bainbridge fought to score again and regain the lead, but Skyline’s defense proved impenetrable. Skyline ended the night with a 4-2 win.
The Skyline Spartans will play against the Inglemoor Vikings at Skyline on Fri. Mar 29 at 7pm.
