Announcing our 2024 scholarship for youth journalism
The Sammamish Independent is pleased to announce our 2024 scholarship to support local, youth-led journalism in our community.
Since our founding four years ago, we have been committed to training students from local high schools to write the news of our city.
This newspaper is only made possible because of the dedication, perseverance and creativity of our volunteer student reporters and contributors. They provide an important public service that Sammamish depends on. Without their work, our city would be a news desert.
This year, we are offering a $2,000 scholarship for each student. This scholarship is open to all eligible high school seniors and current college students, as recognition for their public service in providing news for our community.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for this scholarship:
- 10 published bylines on the Sammamish Independent.
- Acceptance and enrollment in a two-year or four-year college degree program.
- High school diploma
- High school GPA: 2.5 or above
