Eastlake boys soccer dominates Skyline, 3-0
On Friday, March 28, the Eastlake Wolves defeated the Skyline Spartans, 3-0, at Eastlake High School.
While both teams played aggressively, it was Eastlake that owned the field, scoring twice in the first half and once in the second while holding Skyline scoreless the entire game.
The two teams appeared well matched as play moved up and down the field for the first 30 minutes without a goal. Bruno Perversi caught the first break for Eastlake but was blocked just short of the goalie box. Fortunately for Eastlake, Wolves forward Elijah Marrero was there to recover the block and walked the ball into the net for the first Eastlake goal.
With time running short, Wolves forward Randy Xia stripped Skyline of the ball just shy of midfield. A short pass to Perversi kept Eastlake in control in Skyline territory. Quick footwork between two Spartan defenders allowed Perversi to score for a 2-0 Wolves lead at the half.
The Spartans had to make changes during the break if they were going to stay in the fight. A strategy shift seemed to help Skyline keep the ball in Eastlake territory. But Wolves goalie Pablo Jazmin proved unbeatable. He blocked every attempt, including three consecutive corner kicks.
Getting the saved ball to Marrero, Jazmin found a way to move the action back into Skyline territory. Marrero outran the Spartan defense to pass the ball downfield to Xia. He beat the Skyline goalie for a third Eastlake goal.
Continuing to fight, the Spartans managed to keep the ball in Wolves territory for the rest of the second half. Skyline came close to scoring with a corner kick pass to a header that bounced off the crossbar. Despite several attempts, the visiting team remained scoreless in the end.
With consistent defense and an aggressive offense, Eastlake delivered a decisive 3-0 victory for the home team.
Skyline will play Redmond High School at Redmond on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Eastlake will play Issaquah High School at home on Thursday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m.
