Spartans defeat Falcons in decisive victory
On Friday, Oct. 17 at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell, the Skyline Spartans delivered a commanding 49–14 win over the Woodinville Falcons. The Spartans received the opening kickoff and wasted no time setting the tone. Quarterback Ben Odom connected early with Luke Morgan, who sprinted into the end zone for the Spartans’ first touchdown. A two-point conversion gave Skyline an early 8–0 lead.
Woodinville’s offense looked to respond, but the Spartan defense quickly shut down their rhythm. Odom and Morgan linked up again, adding another touchdown and extra point to extend the lead to 15–0 as the quarter came to a close.
The Spartans’ momentum continued into the next period. This time, Odom found Bupe Chisanga on a quick route, adding just six points to Skyline’s lead, 21–0, due a missed extra point.
Woodinville quarterback Drew Sorenson, in an attempt to rally his offense, completed a pass to Owen Milnes to chew up some of the distance to the goal line. In the end, the Falcons could not find the end zone, returning possession to the visiting team.
Before the half was over, Skyline struck again. A completion from Odom to Caleb McBride resulted in another touchdown, increasing the divide, 28–0.
Taking advantage of an untimely mistake, Natnael Asrat found himself in the right place at the right time. Asrat, who intercepted Sorenson’s pass, raced into the Skyline end zone for a pick-six and another Spartan addition to the board.
Just before the half, Woodinville finally drove through the Skyline defense when Sorenson connected with Milnes for a touchdown. The Falcons managed to avoid a goose-egg with a 35-7 deficit going into the break.
The Skyline energy extended into the second half while the Falcons continued to stall. Odom, distributing the ball effectively, found Owen Seethoff for yet another touchdown, making it 42–7 to end the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Crew Ericson kept the offense rolling for the Spartans when he came in for Odom. Adding insult to injury, Ericson connected with Chisanga for another Skyline touchdown, 49-7.
Woodinville’s John Kovacich managed to add one final touchdown to the board for the Falcons late in the game with a 30-yard completion, closing the gap with a 7-point addition. Unfortunately for the home team, the divide proved insurmountable and the Spartans took home the 49-14 victory for Skyline.
The Skyline Spartans will face the Mount Si Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Skyline High School.
