Eastlake Wolves steamroll the Newport Knights in a 50-10 victory
The Eastlake Wolves defeated the Newport Knights on Friday, Oct. 31 at Eastlake High School in a 50-10 blowout.
The Wolves struck quickly and early when Myles Johnson waltzed into the end zone on a handoff in the first three minutes of play. The extra point gave Eastlake a 7-0 lead.
Unable to break through the Eastlake defense, Newport turned over the ball on downs, giving the Wolves another opportunity to score. With plenty of time to find his receiver, Ryder Barrysmith connected with Mason King in the end zone for another touchdown and a 14-0 lead for the Wolves as the first quarter ended.
Continuing their momentum, the Wolves barreled into the end zone again with their first possession in the second quarter. Myles Johnson tumbled over the goal line for a 21-0 Eastlake lead.
Before the quarter ended, the Knights managed to avoid a first half shutout. Failing to cross into the end zone, Newport settled for a field goal for a score of 21-3.
The Wolves answered immediately for another seven points when Jack Steiner broke through multiple tackles for another Eastlake touchdown and a 28-3 advantage.
The Wolves followed up their last touchdown with another from Myles Johnson, who once again, outmaneuvered the Knights for a score of 35-3.
As Newport struggled, they could not get out of the half without one more gut punch. This time Landon Johnson caught a long bomb for a touchdown. Adding to the sting was a successful two-point conversion to Chase Hanschka for a 43-3 romp to end the first half.
The Knights used the much-needed half-time break to regroup. Although Newport successfully stopped Eastlake in the third quarter, Adam Barrick broke through the defensive line to score a touchdown in the fourth, running up the score to 50-3.
For the last play of the game,and the end of the Newport season, Tj Rhatigan broke through the Eastlake wall for the only Newport touchdown of the game for a 50-10 fall score.
While the Wolves ended the Knights’ season, they guaranteed themselves another game in the 2025 post season.
The Eastlake Wolves will play the Mead Panthers at Eastlake High School at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
