Eastlake mourns after student’s death
Tragedy has struck Eastlake High School.
On Dec. 9, Eastlake’s principal Todd Apple emailed students and staff to relay the news that Aarya R. Rohith, a freshman, had died. King County later ruled that the death was by suicide.
The incident happened a day earlier on Dec. 8. The King County Medical Examiner Report, released three days after the incident, cited the manner of death to be suicide by multiple blunt force injuries without providing further detail.
Rohith grew up in Sammamish and had previously attended Christa McAuliffe Elementary and Inglewood Middle schools.
Friends remembered Rohith fondly for his kindness and compassion to other students.
“Aarya was always a very kind guy,” said Sriram Saravanan, a fellow Eastlake freshman. “I remember at the Fun Fair back in middle school when Aarya helped us buy stuff. Aarya always loved to talk to others and many people were happy when they were around him.”
To help students cope with this sudden loss, Eastlake is offering mental health support.
“Counselors will be available to students for drop-in visits, and our LWSD team is working to ensure that EHS has access to a variety of supports both in the near term and beyond,” Apple wrote in his email.
