Skyline falls 49–20 to undefeated Puyallup in 4A quarterfinals
At Sparks Stadium in Puyallup, the Skyline Spartans entered the 4A state quarterfinals with an 8–2 record on Saturday, Nov. 22. Despite the palpable energy in the stadium, the undefeated Puyallup Vikings, with an 11–0, controlled the night from start to finish, handing Skyline a 49–20 loss.
Skyline struck first, igniting early confidence as quarterback Ben Odom hit Bupe Chisanga on a 22-yard touchdown connection. With the extra point, the Spartans took the 7-0 early lead. It was the only time they would have the lead the entire game.
From that point forward, the Vikings squeezed Skyline’s offense from every direction. Puyallup answered immediately with a rushing touchdown from Noah Smith, tying the score, 7–7. From there, their momentum only swelled.
The Vikings reclaimed the lead when Malcolm Akuffo punched in a rushing touchdown, edging ahead 13–7 after a missed point after touchdown. Moments later, Briytan Bailey added separation with another score, stretching the divide to 19–7 though Skyline stopped the conversion attempt again.
Puyallup then delivered a late-first-half blow with another touchdown from Akuffo, this time on a pass play. A successful two-point conversion meant the Spartans entered halftime facing a steep 27–7 deficit.
Skyline hoped to reset, but Puyallup received the second-half kickoff and wasted no time widening the gap. Jayden Woodland broke free for a 75-yard sprint to the end zone, pushing the lead to 35–7 after a 2-point conversion. Not long after, Luke Parker added yet another touchdown for the Vikings. Puyallup was now firmly in command at 42–7.
The Vikings kept their rhythm as Akuffo punched in his third touchdown of the night, extending the margin, 49–7.
Refusing to allow their resolve to fade, the Spartans found late-game sparks as Colin Shamp followed Hunter Hixson into the end zone for Skyline’s second touchdown, narrowing the gap to 49–14. In the final stretch, Bupe Chisanga grabbed his second touchdown of the game, ending the night with a 49–20 loss to end the Spartan 2025 season.
Despite the loss, Skyline showed flashes of their trademark fight. Meanwhile, Puyallup advances to the 4A semifinals, continuing their dominant run and bid for the state title.
