Skyline baseball scores first win against Woodinville
The Skyline Spartans defeated the Woodinville Falcons 5-3 on Friday, getting their first win and bringing their season record to 1-1.
Both teams started slow, as it was scoreless through the first two innings. The Falcons woke up in the top of the third with a Scott Dickinson single. The Spartans answered in the bottom of the fourth. Tommy Seem drew a walk and wasted no time stealing second, putting himself in scoring position. With two outs, a single from Jack Ogliore and a walk from Ethan Jones loaded the bases. On a passed ball, Seem stole home to tie the game while Ogliore advanced to third. Another passed ball followed, allowing Ogliore to cross the plate and giving Skyline the 2-1 lead.
Woodinville continued to struggle offensively, while the Spartans kept building their lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Andrew Yurkanin led off with a one-out double. Then, a two-run homer from Jack Evans pushed Skyline’s lead to 4-1.
The Spartans kept their momentum going in the sixth, with Max Beilke drawing a walk and stealing second base afterward. With a single from Ethan Jones, Beilke advanced to third and stole home on a passed ball, giving Skyline a 5-1 advantage.
Woodinville continued to battle in the top of the seventh with two runs, but could not close the gap.
