Dahlgren, Smick lead Skyline softball in blowout against Eastside Catholic
The Skyline softball team blew out their crosstown rivals Eastside Catholic 14-2 on Monday afternoon. The Spartans (5-0) went into the game as heavy favorites against the Crusaders (2-4).
Skyline senior Emma Dahlgren and junior Emi Smick proved to be especially effective, with a total of eight runs batted between them.
The duo contributed to nine of the fourteen runs scored in the afternoon.
Dahlgren is on a bit of a hot streak, dropping a great performance just a week ago against Timberline, getting three hits and three runs batted in.
The duo combined well at the top of the first inning, with Dahlgren hitting a pop fly triple that allowed her teammates Devyn Wilson and Shea Staley to score. Smick, the next at bat, hit an RBI single, allowing Dahlgren to get her first run of the afternoon.
They also combined in the third inning, with Smick’s home run to center field allowing both her and Dahlgren to score, bringing the score to a dominant 13-0.
They also dominated defensively. Dahlgren grabbed two outs as a first-baseman, with one ending the first inning. Smick snatched an out by catching a foul ball on the left side of the field.
Both players were efficient in batting, with Smick hitting in all four at bats. She had a total of four runs batted in, including her home run, along with another three singles.
Dahlgren also put the ball in play in all four of her at-bats, getting two triples, and a double. She hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field in the fourth inning, allowing fellow Spartan Ryann Wilson to score.
