Reporter

We are currently expanding our team and looking for reporters.

Reporters work closely to cover an assigned beat. They will work closely with an editor to develop story ideas, find sources to interview, conduct interviews, do research, and write captivating stories to be published.

The ideal candidate is someone who has good writing skills, a keen interest in journalism and newswriting, and is open to working with others to revise and refine their work. Above all, a successful candidate is one who is interested in meeting people and telling their stories.

Opinion writer

We are currently expanding our team and looking for opinion writers who have the creativity, perspective and drive to write their own column on our news website.

Opinion writers will work closely with an editor to develop their column ideas, create outlines, find necessary evidence and background information to support their viewpoints, and finally, to craft and publish a compelling piece that is relevant to our community.

The ideal candidate is someone who has good writing skills and a keen interest in opinion writing, and thrives when working with others to revise and refine their work. Above all, a successful candidate is one who is interested in getting their viewpoints out into the world.

Marketing Intern, Business Development Intern (2 roles)

We are currently expanding and looking for two new team members to join our nonprofit management team.

Interns who join our staff will get to work directly with our board members to run the nonprofit that supports the Sammamish Independent.

The Marketing Intern will be responsible for creating and executing campaigns that will grow our subscriber base, including digital marketing and events. The person in this role will also help manage our social media presence to share our content with the community.

The Business Development Intern will support our fundraising efforts to ensure that we have the resources to continue delivering the news for our community and supporting our student contributors through scholarships. The person in this role will also help manage our finance and legal operations to maintain our status as a healthy nonprofit.

Ideal candidates are those who have a keen interest in business leadership, can take on a great amount of responsibility, have attention to detail, and work seamlessly in a team environment. Familiarity with productivity tools, including Microsoft Office & Teams, and Zoom, is required. Skills in design and writing are a plus.
