Eastlake claims 2-0 victory over North Creek
On Thursday, April 4, the Eastlake Wolves baseball team secured a win against the North Creek Jaguars with a final score of 2-0 at home.
While both teams took a few innings to find a rhythm, the Eastlake bats began to warm up in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Jayden Matsuoka hit a single to center field to give the Wolves their first chance to score. After stealing second and third, a passed ball at the plate allowed Matsuoka to bring in the first run of the game for a 1-0 Eastlake lead.
At the bottom of the fifth, the Wolves connected again when Preston Todd hit a ground ball to the shortstop for a single and the second hit of the game. Substituting Travis Beam for Todd as a pinch runner, Beam stole both second and third base to put the Wolves in scoring position for a second time. A fly ball to deep right field from Noah Koong allowed Beam to tag up for a second run for Eastlake. Going into the sixth, the home team had a 2-0 lead.
While both teams continued to play aggressively, neither managed to connect with the ball in the final two innings. In the end, the Wolves claimed a 2-0 victory managing to silence the Jaguar bats the entire game.
Eastlake coach Elliot Cribby credits the team’s offensive pressure for the win.
“Our guys did a phenomenal job tonight. We want to be able to apply pressure because if we’re not applying pressure, we are feeling pressure,” he said.
The Eastlake Wolves will face the Lake Washington Kangaroos at Peter Kirk Park in Kirkland on Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m.
