Spartans defeat Wildcats with a shutout
On Friday, Oct. 24, the Skyline Spartans defeated the Mt. Si Wildcats in a 14-0 shutout.
Skyline received the opening kickoff for Senior night at Skyline High School. While the Spartans were unable to turn their first possession into points, they managed to hold the visiting team scoreless on their first possession as well.
On their next possession, Spartan Colin Shamp chewed up the field, bringing Skyline closer to the end zone. A 10-yard pass from Ben Odom to Bupe Chisanga put the home team on the board, 7-0.
As time ran out in the first half, the Skyline defense remained impenetrable. The Wildcats were unable to add to the board before the whistle blew for the half-time break and the 7-0 lead held for the Spartans.
Skyline continued their winning strategy in the third quarter. Despite numerous quarterback sacks by the Wildcats, the Spartans drove down the field into Mt. Si territory. Odom managed to bring Skyline in scoring territory with a rushing gain for a first down. A quick hand-off to Hunter Hixson led to another Spartan touchdown for a more comfortable 14-0 advantage.
Once again, the Wildcats found the Spartan defense impenetrable for another half, and they were unable to break into the end zone. The home team defeated Mt. Si 14-0 for a Senior Night celebration.
Jeffery Walker was asked to sum up his team’s performance for the night.
“We’re getting better week by week … any team that gets matched up against us in the playoffs should know that we will be the most disciplined team they face,” he said.
The win solidified a spot in post season play with a 6-2 record for the season.
The state playoffs begin Nov. 14 and run through Dec. 6 with the championship game at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
