A Skyline High School student was fatally stabbed on Sunday, March 1, in the city of Covington, located about 25 miles south of Sammamish.
Local media outlets, including the Seattle Times, reported on the incident shortly after it happened. The student, Saef Kamil, was a junior at Skyline, according to school records. He was 17 years old.
On Tuesday, the King County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the manner of death as a homicide by multiple stab wounds.
The incident happened outside the Timberlane Clubhouse, which is a HOA clubhouse for the Timberlane neighborhood in Covington. Police apprehended a suspect shortly after the incident.
On Monday, Skyline principal Keith Hennig announced through a schoolwide email that a student died suddenly and unexpectedly.
Skyline is providing mental health support for students coping with this loss.
“The Counseling Office will be open over the next few days as a place to go for anyone who needs to talk and have a quiet place to be during this very difficult time,” Hennig wrote in his email.
Kamil’s family started a GoFundMe page after the incident to help fund funeral costs. His burial was on Wednesday, March 4, according to an announcement on the page.
“Saef was a beacon of light and love in our lives, known for his kindness, his caring nature, and the genuine joy he brought to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” wrote his sister, Shahad Kamil, on the page.
