Missed opportunities stall Eastlake baseball in loss to Mount Si
The Eastlake baseball team could not recover from an early deficit Friday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Mount Si during a home game. Despite a steady outing on the mound from pitcher Rodrigo Montano, Eastlake struggled to capitalize on multiple scoring chances, a theme that ultimately defined the game.
Montano kept the Wolves within reach across six innings, allowing four runs, only three of them earned, on six hits while walking two and striking out two. After a difficult first inning, putting Eastlake behind by two runs early, Montano settled in and limited further damage, giving the offense opportunities to respond.
Eastlake’s best opportunities came in the middle innings, where traffic on the bases began to build. The Wolves loaded the bases twice but came away empty both times, unable to deliver the timely hit that could have shifted momentum. Larson Kohlmann provided a spark off the bench in the sixth inning with a pinch-hit single, and Brock Sampson later drove in Eastlake’s lone run on a sacrifice fly, but it was not enough to erase the gap.
Mount Si took advantage early and played clean, controlled baseball throughout the game. The Wildcats continued to apply pressure with disciplined at-bats and aggressive baserunning. Their fourth run, coming on a steal of home, highlighted the difference in execution between the two sides.
Eastlake had four hits from Brennan Hirsh, Skyler Levine, Cruz Payne, and Kohlmann. While the Wolves got runners on base, they failed to mount a comeback.
The loss reflects a broader challenge for Eastlake, where pitching has kept games competitive, but offensive consistency has been harder to find. With another matchup against Mount Si approaching, the Wolves will look to turn those missed chances into production and shift momentum in their favor.
